Registry of Motor Vehicles - 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit

The 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit legally allows you to operate your vehicle for a period of 10 days while you wait to receive your renewed vehicle permit and registration sticker in the mail. The vehicle must continue to display the appropriate licence plate(s) and previously issued registration sticker.

Unless otherwise indicated, your payment receipt will be valid as an Interim Vehicle Permit for 10 days from the date each plate renewal was processed online. A 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit is required to operate a vehicle bearing an expired plate. You must have the 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit receipt with you as proof of registration in the event a Peace Officer requests it.

Your receipt will show one of the following statements:

  1. This receipt is valid as an interim vehicle permit for 10 days from the online permit renewal transaction date. The driver of the vehicle must have this receipt in their possession as proof of registration during the 10 day period in the event a Peace Officer requests it. The vehicle must continue to display the appropriate licence plate(s) and previously issued registration sticker. After 10 days, the driver must have in their possession a valid vehicle permit and valid sticker affixed to their plate. If a valid vehicle permit and registration sticker is not received within 10 days, please contact us at 424-5851 or 1-800-898-7668.
  2. This receipt is not valid as an interim vehicle permit. You may not operate the vehicle(s) for the plate(s) renewed past their current date of expiry. If a valid vehicle permit and registration sticker is not received within 10 days, please contact us at 424-5851 or 1-800-898-7668.

Note:

This occurs when there are technical difficulties and 10 day Interim Permits are temporarily unavailable as we are unable to validate any further plate renewal request(s) at this time.
