Death Registration

Who Needs This Registration?
A funeral director needs this registration before they can issue a burial permit .
Issuing Department / Agency:
Any Local Division Registrar of Deaths properly authorized by the Government of Nova Scotia.  These include most licensed Funeral Directors in the Province.  
Where can you get this Registration and / or further information?
Any Local Division Registrar of Deaths properly authorized by the Government of Nova Scotia.  These include most licensed Funeral Directors in the Province.
Registration Process:
At the time of death, the funeral director will (a) get information about the deceased from the next of kin, and (b) have the section on the medical cause of death completed by the attending physician or medical examiner.  When that is done, the funeral director (acting as Local Division Registrar) issues a burial permit.

The funeral director then sends the Death Registration itself to the Vital Statistics Office of Service Nova Scotia.

Waiting Period:
None; they are prepared immediately following the death.
