Film Exchange Licence

Who Needs This Licence?
Anyone who wishes to distribute films in Nova Scotia. Anyone who intends to rent and/or sell videos to the public in Nova Scotia, either from a permanent business location or from a temporary one, such as a flea market.

Application Forms & Process:
To get an application form:
  1. Download:  Film Exchange Form

    Please note:  These forms are in Portable Document Format (PDF), which requires the FREE Adobe® Acrobat® Reader. If you do not have the Reader, you can download the program FREE of charge.
     
  2. Or phone, visit, write or E-mail one of the contact sources listed above. The appropriate application will be supplied by mail, or may be picked up by the applicant.
An applicant can acquire an application by phone, fax, mail, by downloading from this website or by visiting the Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division office(s).

The application is reviewed by staff to ensure that the application is completed in ints entirety. After review by Division staff, the applicant is issued the appropriate license or notified of its denial.
Waiting Period:
3 to 5 business days
Provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received
Expiry & Renewal:
This license is valid for 3 years. The renewal process is started by the Division, which will send a renewal form to the license holder before the current license expires.
Price: (No tax is charged)

Film Distributor: $1,393.20 (3 year licence)

Video Games:  $696.45 (3 year licence)

Additional Information:
Distributors and film classifications are regulated under this Act.

The Division ensures compliance in terms of public safety, health, taxation, film classification and quality of product in the entertainment industry.
