To Foodservice facility owners, operators, managers, and staff:

Food Hygiene (Food Handler) Training has been mandatory under Section 28 of the Food Safety Regulations since November 1, 2007. Please refer to the Mandatory Food Hygiene Training Fact SheetPDF Download Link (PDF:14k) for more information.

If you have NOT attended a Food Hygiene (Food Handlers) Training Course, or your current certificate is more than five years old, it is time to update your training. The course list indicates the courses being held in Nova Scotia. Participants are encouraged to attend a course closest to their geographical area.

Courses must have at least 20 registrants. If you have registered for a course that must be cancelled due to low registration, you will be contacted directly by the Department at the phone number on your completed registration sheet. Your registration fee will be refunded if a course is cancelled.

Courses will also be cancelled if school is cancelled due to inclement weather in the immediate vicinity of the course location.

Course List

To attend one of the above courses, please complete the registration formPDF Download Link (PDF:302k) indicating your location preference and submit with payment ($26.22) to the address listed on the form. Cheques or money orders ONLY (no debit, credit or cash) are to be made payable to the Minister of Finance. Registration forms for all courses must be received no later than one week before the course date. If you have questions concerning registration, please call (902) 893-7473.

Remember to bring a pen or pencil for the course, as an exam is administered at the end of the day. A passing grade of 70% is needed to obtain your Food Safety Training certificate.

South West Region

LUNENBURG, Chester Grant - Forest Heights Community School Note: Registration for courses at the Forest Heights Community School (only) must be done by telephone or through Municipality of the District of Chester, Recreation Department (http://www.district.chester.ns.ca/). A form is not required. Please call 902-275-3490 to register and to obtain fee requirements.
