Troy Quarry Expansion

Description

On February 10, 2003, S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd. submitted an Environmental Assessment Registration Document for the proposed Troy Quarry Expansion, Troy, Inverness County, Nova Scotia.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the existing quarry operation over the next several decades by approximately an additional 50 acres (20.2 ha) of land immediately adjacent to the existing quarry. The quarried material consists mainly of rhyolite and quartzite, which is primarily used for road building aggregate. The primary markets for the products are within Nova Scotia.

Minister's Decision

On March 7, 2003, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:15k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13 (1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditionsPDF Download Link (PDF:16k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
