Marine Terminal at Point Tupper

Description

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to build and operate a Marine Terminal at the NSPI Point Tupper Generating Station. NSPI is partnering with Logistec Stevedoring Atlantic Incorporated to build and operate this terminal. The terminal will be utilized as the primary coal terminal for the Point Tupper and Trenton Generating Stations. Project construction is planned to begin in March 2004 with operation starting in March 2005.

Minister's Decision

On February 3, 2004, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:323k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditionsPDF Download Link (PDF:35k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.

Public comments regarding this project were accepted from December 5, 2003 to February 3, 2004. Comments submitted on Registration Document are available at the Department of Environment and Climate Change Library.
