Envirosoil Facility – Addition of Stabilization and Solidification Technology Project

Description

This is to advise that on August 11, 2015, Envirosoil Ltd. registered an AddendumPDF Download Link (PDF:2.4mb) to the Envirosoil Facility – Addition of Stabilization and Solidification Project Registration Document originally submitted on May 26, 2015, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

On July 15, 2015, the Minister of Environment released a decision concerning this review. The Minister determined that the registration information is insufficient to make a decision on the project, and additional information is required in order to assess potential environmental effects caused by the project.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to treat materials contaminated with metals and/or salts within Envirosoil’s existing soil treatment facility at 48 Quarrystone Drive (adjacent to 927 Rocky Lake Drive), Bedford, Halifax Regional Municipality. The undertaking will expand the existing operations, and add the Stabilization and Solidification technology to remediate 30,000 to 70,000 tonnes of the contaminated materials per year.

Minister's Decision

On September 28, 2015, the Minister of Environment announced his decision following a careful consideration of the above project. It is evident that there are potential adverse effects or significant environmental effects of the project which are unacceptable. The Minister therefore determined that the project is rejected in accordance with Section 13(1)(e) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.
