Natural Resources 2002 Woodlot Owner of the Year

Meet the Winners:

Les Corkum
Falmouth, Hants Co

A resident of Falmouth, Hants Co., will receive the 2002 Nova Scotia Woodlot Owner of the Year award from the Department of Natural Resources.

Mr. Corkum was chosen as the western Nova Scotia regional winner in April and was recently selected as the provincial winner.

"There are many positive changes happening on private woodlots across Nova Scotia," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Natural Resources. "This prestigious award recognizes one woodlot owner a year who puts extra thought and care into their woodlot activities."

The Department of Natural Resources received 17 nominations for the woodlot owner award in January from which three regional winners were chosen in April.

2002 Regional Winners

Earle Tanner
Central Region Winner

Earle Tanner, a woodlot owner from Hardwoodlands in Hants Co., was chosen as the Central Region Woodlot Owner of the Year. Selected as provincial winner in 1991, Mr. Tanner is an experienced and knowledgeable woodlot owner who has a great passion for helping other woodlot owners. He hosts numerous tours on his woodlot, all with the intent to help others.

A field tour will be held on Mr. Tanner's woodlot in North Salem on Saturday, September 21. The tour will leave the East Hants DNR office on that morning (exact time to be determined).

Robert Glaze
Eastern Region Winner

Robert Glaze, a woodlot owner from Orangedale, Inverness Co. was chosen as the Eastern Region Woodlot Owner of the Year. Mr. Glaze is also a silviculture contractor with a long history of working in the woods.

By replacing old, unhealthy stands with young healthy plantations or natural stands, he has helped to ensure that his children will have healthy valuable woodland.

A field tour will be held on Mr. Glaze's woodlots on Saturday, September 7. The tour will begin at the Whycocomagh DNR office (time to be determined).
