Working Near Power Lines : NS Labour and Advanced Education, Hazard Alerts

Date of Issue: July 14, 2000

Hazard Summary

Businesses are often required to work near power lines to carry out activities.  Overhead power lines are not insulated and pose a significant electrocution hazard to those working near them.  Also, power lines sag during changes in temperature and it is difficult to distinguish them from cable TV and telephone lines.

Preventive Measures

Anyone who may be working near power lines should review the Nova Scotia Power brochure - Power Lines.
