June 16, 2017EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION, MAY 2017 In May, annual inflation was 1.4 per cent in the Euro Area and 1.6 per cent in the European Union, both decreases compared to last month. In April, annual inflation was 1.9 per cent in the Euro Area and 2.0 per cent in the EU. In May 2016, inflation in the Euro Area and the EU was -0.1 per cent for both.
The highest annual rates were recorded in Estonia, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom. The lowest rates were registered in Ireland, Romania, and Denmark and Netherlands.
The largest upward impacts to euro area annual inflation came from fuels for transport, accommodations services, and heating oil. Telecommunication, garments, and social protection had the biggest downward impacts.
