- Labour force decreased 0.4% (-2,200) from April 2017 to 488,600 and increased 0.7% (+3,400) over May 2016.
- Employment remained unchanged (+200) from April 2017 at 450,200 and increased 1.1% (+5,000) over May 2016.
- Unemployment decreased 5.6% (-2,300) from April 2017 to 38,500 and decreased 3.8% (-1,500) over May 2016.
- Unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points from April 2017 to 7.9%.
In Canada May 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force increased 0.4% (+78,400) from April 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 1.3% (+260,500) over May 2016.
- Employment increased 0.3% (+54,500) from April 2017 at 18.4 million and increased 1.8% (+316,800) over May 2016.
- Unemployment increased 1.9% (+23,900) from April 2017 to 1.3 million and decreased 4.2% (-56,300) over May 2016.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points from April 2017 to 6.6%.
In Halifax May 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally adjusted):
- Labour force increased 0.8% (+1,900) from April 2017 to 242,400 and remained unchanged (-100) over May 2016.
- Employment increased 0.6% (+1,400) from April 2017 to 225,600 and decreased 0.7% (-1,500) over May 2016.
- Unemployment increased 3.7% (+600) from April 2017 to 16,900 and increased 9.7% (+1,500) over May 2016.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points from April 2017 to 7.0%.
