NOVA SCOTIA QUARTERLY POPULATION ESTIMATES AS OF JULY 1, 2014

As of July 1, 2014, Nova Scotia's population is estimated to be 942,668, an increase of 478 persons (0.05%) over the revised April 1, 2014 estimate (942,190). Two of the last three quarters have shown population increases. Prior to that, there were five consecutive quarters of population decline.



Natural Increase (2,120 Births - 2,304 Deaths) over the quarter ending July 1st was -184. Net interprovincial migration for the quarter ending July 1st was an inflow of 87 persons (5,390 interprovincial inmigrants, 5,303 interprovincial outmigrants). Immigration was 776, and emigration was 266. Net international migration (immigrants minus emigrants, plus returning emigrants, minus net temporary emigrants, plus net non-permanent residents) was a positive 575.



Interprovincial movements data show that of those who left Nova Scotia over the quarter ending June 30, 2014, 1,717 left for Alberta and 1,330 left for Ontario. On the interprovincial inmigration side, Nova Scotia received 2,294 interprovincial migrants from Ontario and 1,022 from New Brunswick. The net result is net interprovncial migration of +87. Nova Scotia received positive net interprovincial migrants from New Brunswick (+186), Quebec (+60), Ontario (+964), Manitoba (+93) and Saskatchewan (+47).



Over the last four quarters, net interprovincial migration has totaled -2,172, with the majority of that going to Alberta (-3,025).
