GDP BY INDUSTRY JUNE 2014

Canada's real GDP grew by 0.3 per cent in June 2014 to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of $1.63 trillion dollars (chained (2007) dollars at basic prices). The previous month growth was 0.5 per cent for the month. Compared to June 2013, real GDP was 3.1 per cent higher.




For the month, goods-producing industries increased 0.5 per cent. Mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction expanded 1.8 per cent on higher coppery, nickel, lead and zinc mining. Potash, iron ore, and oil production were all higher. Construction activity gained 0.9 per cent as the result of increased residential building and repairs. Manufacturing was down 0.3 per cent in June due to lower durable-goods. The agriculture and forestry sectors was down 2.2 per cent on lower crop production.

Service-producing industries increased 0.3 per cent in June. The largest increases came in wholesale trade(+1.0%), transportation and warehousing (+0.9%), and finance and insurance (+0.6%). Wholesale trade gained for third a consecutive month and retail gained 0.5 per cent in the month. Transportation gained with more rail and truck transportation.
