July 23, 2014RETAIL TRADE MAY 2014 In Canada May 2014 retail sales (
seasonally adjusted) increased 0.7% from April 2014 to $42.0 billion and increased 4.0% over May 2013.
In Nova Scotia May 2014, retail sales (
seasonally adjusted) increased 1.1% from April 2014 to $1.15 billion and increased 0.7% over May 2013. On a year-to-date basis, retail sales increased 2.2% over Jan-May 2013 to $5.7 billion.
Nova Scotia year-to-date
unadjusted retail sales increased 2.4% ($121.8 million) in Jan-May 2014 over Jan-May 2013. Large declines were observed in Electronics and Appliance Stores (-$12.2 million) and Building Material and Garden equipment (-$10.5 million). The largest increases were in Gasoline stations up 8.7% ($68.9 million), Motor vehicle and parts dealers up 3.9% ($46.2 million) and Automobile dealers (up 3.7% or $38.9 million).
Canada and the ProvincesAlberta led the provinces in year-to-date (+8.3%) and year over year (6.5%). PEI led in month-over-month (+4.9%) retail sales.
Nova Scotia ranked 8th in year-to-date (+2.2%) growth, 9th in year-over-year(+0.7%), and 3rd in month-over-month (1.1%) retail sales.
