UK RETAIL SALES, DEC AND ANNUAL 2016

The UK Office of National Statistics reports that in December 2016 retail sales (volumes based - seasonally adjusted) decreased by 1.9 per cent compared to November 2016, and increased 4.3 per cent over December 2015. The largest contribution to the month-on-month fall came from non-food stores.  Compared with 2015, the volume of retail sales increased 4.9 per cent in 2016.

Retail sales (seasonally adjusted) value decreased 1.3 per cent over November 2016  and increased 5.4 per cent over December 2015. Compared with 2015, the value of retail sales increased 3.2 per cent in 2016.

In December 2016, the amount spent online accounted for 15.1 per cent of all retail (excluding automotive fuels) spending.  The value of the on-line sales decreased 5.3 per cent over November 2016, and increased 21.3 per cent over December 2015.
