US PERSONAL INCOME AND OUTLAY, AUGUST 2016

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that US personal income increased $39.3 billion, or by 0.2 per cent (all data are seasonally adjusted at annual rates), in August.

Wages and salaries increased $8.8 billion, or by 0.1 per cent, in August.  This was the sixth consecutive monthly increase in US wages and salaries.

US personal disposable income (DPI) increased $31.9 billion, or by 0.2 per cent, in August.  Real per capita disposable income was unchanged in August.

US personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $6.2 billion, or by less than 0.1 per cent month to month. Real personal consumption expenditures (real PCE) decreased 0.1 percent in August.

 

US Personal savings (disposable personal income minus personal outlays consisting of consumption, interest paid, and transfers to government and the rest of the world) was $807.6 billion in August, compared to $781.9 billion in July. The personal savings rate (share of DPI) increased to 5.7 percent in August.
