JAPAN CPI, AUGUST 2016

Japanese prices declined 0.5 per cent from August 2015 to August 2016. This was primarily attributable to lower energy prices (-10.2 per cent) as well as slowing inflation for food prices (0.6 per cent).  Excluding food and energy (but including alcoholic beverages), Japanese inflation was 0.2 per cent.

(Note there was a 3 per cent sales tax hike implemented in April 2014).

Note that starting with this release, Japan CPI is calculated by Statistics Japan using a 2015 base year. All previous releases used a 2010 base year.
