April 28, 2016EMPLOYMENT, EARNINGS AND HOURS, FEBRUARY 2016 Nova Scotians' average weekly earnings (including overtime, seasonally adjusted) increased $6.90 per week (0.8%) from January to $847.77 in February 2016. This is 2.5 per cent above the level in February of last year. Canadians' average weekly wages increased 0.3 per cent from January to $953.75 in February 2016, a 0.4 percent increase over February 2015.
This month, all provinces showed monthly increases in average weekly wages, the largest increase being in Quebec at 1.3 per cent. On a year-over-year basis, all provinces with the exception of Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta showed wage increases. Nova Scotia wages grew the most, at 2.5 percent year over year.
In February 2016, earnings in goods producing industries in Nova Scotia increased 2.7 percent on a month to month basis. Goods producing industries average wages increased 2.1 percent year-over-year.
Service producing industries wages increased 0.6 percent month to month, and increased 2.4 percent compared to February 2015 (all figures are seasonally adjusted).
EMPLOYMENT
In February 2016, Nova Scotia had 401,654 payroll employees, a 0.3 per cent decrease month to month, and 0.3 per cent more when compared to February of last year. Canada had 15.8 million employees, 0.2 per cent fewer than last month, and 0.5 percent more than a year ago.
On a year to date basis, Nova Scotia had 402,348 payroll employees, 0.3 per cent higher than the same period a year ago.
