February 08, 2016CMHC PRELIMINARY HOUSING STARTS, JANUARY 2016 In Nova Scotia, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts in all areas was 2,146 units in January 2016, up 10.6 per cent from December's revised estimate of 1,940. A decline of 26.0 per cent occurred from January 2015's level. For the month in urban areas of the province multiples (+50.8%) were up and single-detached units (-7.6%) were down. Halifax has a seasonally adjusted annualized 511 housing starts in January a decrease of 34.7 per cent. The six month moving average declined for both Nova Scotia and Halifax this month.
In Canada, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts was 165,861 units in January 2016, down 3.9 per cent from the previous month, and down 9.3 per cent below the level in January 2015. For the month, multi-unit urban starts decreased 5.3 per cent while single-detached urban starts were up 1.0 per cent
