August 27, 2015EMPLOYMENT, EARNINGS AND HOURS, JUNE 2015 Nova Scotians' average weekly earnings (including overtime, seasonally adjusted) increased $9.41 per week (1.1%) from May to $838.11 in June 2015. This is 1.9 per cent above the level in June of last year. Canadians' average weekly wages increased 0.8 per cent from May to $954.60 in June 2015, a 1.9 percent increase over June 2014.
This month, Newfoundland and Labrador (-0.5%) and Alberta (-0.2%) showed monthly declines in average weekly wages. On a year-over-year basis, all provinces with the exception of Alberta (-0.1%) showed wage increases, PEI growing the most, at 3.4 percent year over year. On a year to date basis, Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest growth (3.9%), while Alberta has the lowest (1.5%).
Nova Scotia's year-to-date average weekly earnings were $833.36, a 2.0 per cent increase over the same time period last year.
In June 2015, earnings in goods producing industries in Nova Scotia increased 2.0 percent on a month to month basis, buoyed by upward movements in manufacturing wages (up 4.8% monthly). Goods producing industry average wages increased 1.9 percent year-over-year.
Service producing industries wages increased 0.9 percent month to month, and increased 1.7 percent compared to June 2014 (all figures are seasonally adjusted).
On a year to date basis, goods industries' wages were up 2.0 per cent over the first half of 2015 (compared to the half of 2014), and services wages were up 2.1 per cent. Overall, the industrial aggregate increased by 2.0 percent.
EMPLOYMENT
In June 2015, Nova Scotia had 401,805 payroll employees, about the same as last month and 0.1 per cent fewer than a year ago (402,257 in June 2014). Canada had 15.7 million employees, 0.1 per cent fewer than last month, and 1.0 percent more than a year ago.
On a year to date basis, payroll employment in Nova Scotia is up 0.1 per cent compared to last year, and payroll employment for Canada is up 1.2 per cent.
