US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, MARCH 2015

U.S. construction spending declined 0.6 percent in March 2015, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $966.6 billion. Compared to March 2014, total construction spending was 2.0 percent higher.

Total private construction declined 0.3 percent from February 2015 to $702.4 billion (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in March 2015, and 2.9 percent above the March 2014 estimate. Private residential construction decreased 1.6 percent compared to the February 2015 estimate and is down 2.6 percent compared to a year ago. However, construction spending was up for new single family dwellings (+7.8%) and multi-family dwellings (+23.4%) compared to March of last year. Private non-residential construction increased 1.0 percent in March 2015 and is up 9.0 percent compared to a year ago.  

Public sector spending decreased 1.5 percent from February 2015 to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $264.2 billion in March 2015, and is down 0.3 percent compared to March 2014.
