STUDY: LIFE SATISFACTION ACROSS CENSUS METROPOLITAN AREAS AND ECONOMIC REGIONS

Today, Statistics Canada's series, "Economic Insights" publishes data from the General Social Survey (GSS), entitled "How's Life in the City? Life Satisfaction Across Census Metropolitan Areas and Economic Regions in Canada".

Some highlights from Nova Scotia include:

  • Average life satisfaction across census metropolitan areas, 2009 to 2013 -- Halifax CMA: 7.970, Canadian Average: 7.973
  • Percent of Individuals rating their life satisfaction as 9 or 10 -- Halifax CMA: 37.9, Canadian Average: 37.9
  • Percent of Individuals rating their life satisfaction as 6 or less -- Halifax CMA: 13.9, Canadian Average 14.3

As well, Nova Scotia's Economic Regions all scored as follows, with Cape Breton having the highest average Life Satisfaction score, and the highest percentage in the province of respondents with Life Satisfaction scores of 9 or 10:

  • Average Life Satisfaction across Economic Regions (Canadian Average 7.97). 
  • Cape Breton: 8.2
  • North Shore: 8.0
  • Annapolis Valley: 8.0
  • Southern: 8.0
  • Halifax: 8.0
