March 02, 2015US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JANUARY 2015 U.S. construction spending decreased 1.1 percent in January 2015 to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $971.4 billion. Compared to January 2014, construction spending was 1.8 percent higher.
Private construction decreased 0.5 percent from December 2014 to $697.6 billion (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in January 2015, and 0.5 percent above the January 2014 estimate. Private residential construction increased 0.6 percent compared to the December 2014 estimate, but is down 3.4 percent compared to a year ago. Construction spending was up for new dwellings, both new single family (+9.7%) and multi-family (+29.8%) homes increased compared to January of last year. Private non-residential construction fell 1.6 percent in January 2015 but is up 4.8 percent compared to last year.
Public sector spending decreased 2.6 percent from December 2014 to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $273.8 billion, but is up 5.1 percent compared to January 2014. 2013.
