January 29, 2015EMPLOYMENT, EARNINGS AND HOURS, NOVEMBER 2014 Nova Scotians' average weekly earnings (including overtime, seasonally adjusted) decreased 0.8 percent from October to $819.29 in November 2014, and was 1.2 per cent above the level in November 2013. Canadians' average weekly wages increased 0.1 per cent from October to $940.61 in November 2014, a 2.2 percent increase over November 2013.
This month, half of the provinces saw increases (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta declined) in average weekly earnings on a monthly basis. On a year-over-year basis, all provinces average wages increased with Newfoundland and Labrador growing the most, at 5.5 percent year over year.
Year-to-date, Nova Scotians' average weekly earnings increased 3.0 percent, to $820.69. Canadians' average weekly earnings rose 2.8 percent year to date (January to November 2014 vs January to November 2013) to $934.54.
In November, earnings in goods producing industries in Nova Scotia decreased 0.9 percent on a month to month basis, and increased 4.1 percent year-over-year. Service producing industries wages decreased 0.8 percent month to month, and increased 0.8 percent compared to November 2013 (all figures are seasonally adjusted).
On a year to date basis, the Industrial Aggregate (excluding unclassified businesses) average weekly earnings for Nova Scotia rose by 3.0 percent to $820.69. Goods industries wages were up 4.2 percent (to $989.69) on a year to date basis, and services industry wages were up 2.8 percent year to date (to $792.45).
EMPLOYMENT
In November, Nova Scotia had 400,643 employees, a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to last month, and 0.1 percent lower than a year ago. Canada had 15.6 million employees, 0.2 per cent lower than last month and 0.8 percent higher than a year ago.
On a year to date basis, Nova Scotia had 0.1% fewer employees to November (averaging 400,895 for the first eleven months of 2014) and Canada had 1.0 per cent more employees compared to the first eleven months of last year.
