January 28, 2015LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - HISTORICAL REVISIONS Statistics Canada today released updated Labour Force Survey data for Canada, Provinces, and subprovincial areas. This is in keeping with both annual revisions and with updating to reflect the most recent population estimates, geographic boundaries, methodogical enhancements to imputation, and updating seasonal adjustment. These revisions cover the period of 2001 to 2014.
The revisions affect all seasonally adjusted data for Nova Scotia stretching back to January 2001.
For Nova Scotia, December 2014:
The seasonally adjusted labour force population has been revised upwards by 2,700 persons to 784,100.
The Labour Force has been revised upwards by 4,300 persons to 492,100.
Employment has been revised upward by 3,500 (+3,700 in full time and -200 in part time) to a level of 451,000 (369,000 full time and 82,000 part time).
Unemployment is 41,100 -- an upward revision of 700 persons.
The participation rate is 62.8, revised 0.4 percentage points upwards.
The Unemployment rate for December 2014 is 8.4, revised upward by 0.1 percentage point.
Historical revisions to the labour force population have resulted in an increase in the 15-24 and 25-54 year olds, with little change in the number of 55 and over who are able to offer themselves to the labour force.
ECONOMIC REGIONS - ANNUAL
Annual Labour Force Survey estimates for Nova Scotia's Economic Regions show that with the exception of the Southern Economic Region and Cape Breton, unemployment rates in all other regions declined from 2013 in 2014.
Employment gains for 2014 were seen only in the Halifax Economic Region (+1,000). The largest drop in employment occurred in Cape Breton (-2,400) and the North Coast (-2,200).
