CANADIAN ECONOMIC ACCOUNTS Q3 2014 CONTINUED

Exports were up for the second consecutive quarter, increasing 6.9 per cent with increase in good exports of intermediate metal products, crude oil and crude bitumen, and basic chemicals, industrial chemical products, and passenger cars and light trucks. Export of services was down with a decline in commercial services. Imports rose 4.0 per cent on higher crude oil and crude bitumen and refined petroleum energy products.



Nominal GDP increased 4.7 percent (annualized rate) in the 3rd quarter following growth of 3.9 per cent and 6.7 per cent in the previous two quarters. Compensation of employees grew 3.9 percent in the third quarter with gains in both goods-producing and services-producing industries. Gross operating surplus of corporations were up 7.1 per cent on an increase in both non-financial corporations and financial corporations. The household savings rate remained at four year low of 3.9 per cent in the third quarter. Canada's terms of trade worsened for the second quarter in a row - limiting growth in real gross domestic income.
