JAPAN CPI, SEPTEMBER 2014

The Japanese all-items consumer price index increased by 0.2 per cent from August to September and by 3.2 per cent from September 2013. All 10 major groups reported positive inflation over the previous 12 months, though Housing price growth was only 0.1 per cent. Food (5.1 per cent) and fuel/light/water charges (5.3 per cent) led inflationary pressures.

Measured on the conventional 12-month period, Japanese inflation has been boosted by the April increase of 3 per cent in the country's value-added tax rate. Since this time, underlying inflation has been low and declining.
