January 30, 2024EU AND EURO AREA GDP, Q4 2023 (PRELIMINARY FLASH) 
In Eurostat's preliminary flash GDP estimate for Q4 2023, seasonally adjusted annualized real GDP growth was 0.0% for the European Union (EU27), following a revised growth of -0.2% in Q3. For the Euro Area (EA20, a subset of the EU27 nations), seasonally adjusted annualized real GDP growth increased to 0.1% after a 0.5% decline in the third quarter.
Among the Member States for which data are available, Portugal and Spain recorded the fastest growth compared to the previous quarter. Ireland, Germany and Lithuania reported declines compared to Q3.
The European Union economy was 0.2% larger compared to the fourth quarter of 2022. The Euro Area economy was 0.1% larger in Q4 2023 than in Q4 2022.
