LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - OCTOBER 2017

In Nova Scotia October 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.2% (-1,000) from September 2017 to 490,200 and increased 1.6% (+7,700) over October 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.2% (+700) from September  2017 to 447,600 and increased 0.5% (+2,200) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 3.8% (-1,700) from September 2017 to 42,600 and increased 14.8% (+5,500) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.3 percentage points from September 2017 to 8.7%.


In Canada October 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.3%  (+56,800) from September 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 0.9% (+178,600) over October 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.2% (+35,300) from September 2017 to 18.5 million and increased 1.7% (+308,100) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 1.8% (+21,300) from September 2017 to 1.2 million and decreased 9.5% (-129,600) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points from September 2017 to 6.3%.


In Halifax October 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour force decreased 0.4% (+700) from September 2017 to 240,600 and was virtual unchanged (0) over October 2016.
  • Employment decreased 0.5% (+300) from September 2017 to 222,900 and decreased 1.5% (-3,300) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 1.1% (+300) from September 2017 to 17,700 and increased 22.9% (+3,300) over October 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points from September 2017 to 7.4%.
