US PRODUCTIVITY 3RD QUARTER 2017

 

Nonfarm business sector labour productivity in the US increased 3.0 per cent (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) in Q3 2017, as output increased 3.8 per cent and hours worked rose 0.8 per cent. Unit labour costs increased 0.5 per cent reflecting the 3.0 per cent increase in productivity and a 3.5 per cent increase in hourly compensation. Unit labour costs have decreased 0.1 per cent over the last four quarters. 

Manufacturing sector labour productivity decreased 5.0 per cent in Q3 with output decreasing 2.1 per cent and hours worked increasing 3.1 per cent. Productivity was down 5.7 per cent for durable goods, and down 4.6 per cent in the nondurable goods sector. Unit labour costs were up 6.2 per cent in manufacturing.
