October 10, 2017UK TRADE BALANCE AUGUST 2017
UK import and export trade is a main contributor to the overall economic growth of the UK.
In August 2017,
- the UK deficit, in the seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade, increased by £1.4 billion to £5.6 billion from July 2017;
- the main contributor to the increased deficit was the increase in imports of trade in goods and services.
In August 2017, goods exports increased £411 million to £28.2 billion while goods imports increased £1.827 billion to £42.4 billion. The resulting goods deficit increased to £14.2 billion.
In August 2017, services exports decreased £97 million to £22.0 billion but services imports decreased £123 million to £13.4 billion. The resulting services surplus increased to £8.6 billion.
Trade with Canada
In August 2017, goods exports with Canada increased £6.0 million to £418.0 million, but goods imports from Canada increased £327 million, to £1.3 billion. The resulting goods deficit with Canada increased to £903 million.
Trade with EU and nonEU Countries
In August 2017, goods exports with European Union countries (EU28) increased to £14.3 billion, and goods imports from EU28 countries increased more, to £22.7 billion. The resulting goods deficit with EU28 countries increased to £8.4 billion.
In August 2017, goods exports with nonEU countries increased to £13.9 billion, and goods imports with nonEU countries increased more, to £19.7 billion. The resulting goods deficit with nonEU countries increased to £5.8 billion.
