September 08, 2017LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - AUGUST 2017 In Nova Scotia August 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force decreased 0.2% (-900) from July 2017 to 487,800 and increased 0.3% (+1,400) over August 2016.
- Employment decreased 1.2% (-5,600) from July 2017 to 444,600 and decreased 0.1% (-500) over August 2016.
- Unemployment increased 11.9% (+4,600) from July 2017 to 43,200 and increased 4.6% (+1,900) over August 2016.
- Unemployment rate increased 1.0 percentage points from July 2017 to 8.9%.
In Canada August 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force was unchanged (+2,000) from July 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 1.2% (+237,400) over August 2016.
- Employment increased 0.1% (+22,200) from July 2017 to 18.4 million and increased 2.1% (+374,300) over August 2016.
- Unemployment decreased 1.6% (-20,200) from July 2017 to 1.2 million and decreased 10.0% (-136,800) over August 2016.
- Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from July 2017 to 6.2%.
In Halifax August 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):
- Labour force decreased 0.5% (-1,200) from July 2017 at 240,800 and decreased 0.2% (-500) over August 2016.
- Employment decreased 0.8% (-1,800) from July 2017 to 223,700 and decreased 1.8% (-4,100) over August 2016.
- Unemployment increased 4.2% (+700) from July 2017 to 17,200 and increased 27.4% (+3,700) over August 2016.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.3 percentage points from July 2017 to 7.1%.
