LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - JULY 2017

In Nova Scotia July 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.6% (-3,100) from June 2017 to 488,700 and increased 0.6% (+3,000) over July 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.4% (+1,900) from June  2017 to 450,200 and increased 1.1% (+4,800) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 11.3% (-4,900) from June 2017 to 38,600 and decreased 4.2% (-1,700) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.9 percentage points from June 2017 to 7.9%.


In Canada July 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.1%  (-12,500) from June 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 1.5% (+286,300) over July 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.1% (+10,900) from June 2017 to 18.4 million and increased 2.1% (+387,600) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.8% (-23,500) from June 2017 to 1.2 million and decreased 7.5% (-101,300) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points from June 2017 to 6.3%.


In Halifax July 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour force was unchanged (0) from June 2017 at 242,000 and increased 0.4% (+900) over July 2016.
  • Employment was unchanged (+100) from June 2017 to 225,500 and decreased 1.1% (-2,600) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.2% (-200) from June 2017 to 16,500 and increased 26.9% (+3,500) over July 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from June 2017 to 6.8%.
