Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.8 per cent in June, as both labour force fell slightly and employment increased. Japan's unemployment rate has been steadily declining since mid-2009, and has been hovering around the 3.0 per cent mark for most of 2017.
Japan typically reports much lower unemployment rates than those observed in Canada or in Nova Scotia. In recent years, employment growth has outpaced labour force growth with Japan's aging population. In Canada, employment growth since the recession has tracked up with the rising labour force. Like in Japan, Nova Scotia's employment growth has outpaced from in its labour force, with lower unemployment rates resulting.
