UK GDP Q2 2017 (PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE)

In the Office for National Statistics'  preliminary estimate of the UK Gross Domestic Product for Quarter 2 2017, real GDP is estimated to have increased by 0.3 per cent for the second quarter of 2017, up from the growth of 0.2 per cent in Quarter 1.

Growth was mainly due to services which grew by 0.5 per cent compared to 0.1 per cent in Quarter 1, and partially offset by declines in construction (-0.9%) and production (-0.4%) . Retail trade and motion pictures activities were  the main contributors to the growth within the service  sector. Decline in the manufacture of motor vehicles was the main contributor to the fall within the production sector.
