NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, JANUARY-MAY 2017

In January-May 2017, Nova Scotia motor vehicle unit sales increased 3.8% over Jan-May 2016. The 23,592 new vehicles sold in January-May represented a value of $844.4 million, up 10.1% compared with motor vehicle sales values from the same period in 2016.

In January-May 2017, Canadian unit sales increased 4.5 per cent over Jan-May 2016 to 849,751 units. January-May dollar sales were in positive territory, increasing 9.4 per cent over January-May 2016 to $33.6 billion.

In Nova Scotia January-May 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle sales value increased 15.2% (79.8% share) over Jan-May 2016. Motor vehicle sales value of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 9.8% (20.2% share) over Jan-May 2016.




In Nova Scotia January-May 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle unit sales increased 7.9% (81.8% share) over Jan-May 2016. Motor vehicle unit sales of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 11.3% (18.2% share) over Jan-May 2016.

Average Prices

In January-May 2017, the average unit price in Canada increased 4.7% to $39,556 over Jan-May 2016.  In Nova Scotia, the average unit price increased 6.1% to $35,792 over the same period last year. 



 

 

Passenger Cars and Trucks

In January-May 2017, Nova Scotian passenger car unit sales decreased 5.6 per cent over Jan-May 2016 to 8,441 units. January-May passenger car dollar sales decreased 3.8 per cent over January-May 2016 to $219.7 million.

In January-May 2017, Nova Scotian truck unit sales increased 10.0 per cent over Jan-May 2016 to 15,151 units. January-May truck dollar sales increased 16.0 per cent over January-May 2017 to $624.7 million.

The truck share of the new motor vehicle sales value stands at 74.0%, and in the new motor vehicle unit sales volume stands at 64.2%

 



In Nova Scotia January-May 2017 the average unit price increased for trucks to $41,233 and increased for cars to $26,025 over Jan-May 2016.
