EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, MAY 2017

In May 2017, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €21.4 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world. The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods reported an increase of 12.9 per cent to €189.6 billion over May 2016. Imports increased 16.4 per cent to €168.1 bn over May 2016.

It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 15.3 per cent to €162.4 bn over May 2016.

In May 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €4.0 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods  reported an increase of 15.9 per cent to €165.4 billion over May 2016. Imports increased 17.2 per cent to €161.4 bn over May 2016.

It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 12.7 per cent to €288.1 bn over May 2016.

In January-May 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €49.2 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods  reported a increase of 6.6 per cent to €158.7 billion over Jan-May 2016. Imports increased 4.0 per cent to €109.6 bn over Jan-May 2016.

In January-May 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €2.4 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods  reported a increase of 11.2 per cent to €15.8 billion over Jan-May 2016. Imports increased 12.7 per cent to €13.3 bn over Jan-May 2016.
