LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - JUNE 2017

In Nova Scotia June 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.7% (+3,200) from May 2017 to 491,800 and increased 1.2% (+5,600) over June 2016.
  • Employment decreased 0.4% (-1,900) from May 2017 at 448,300 and increased 0.3% (+1,500) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 13.0% (+5,000) from May 2017 to 43,500 and increased 14.4% (+4,100) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.9 percentage points from May 2017 to 8.8%.


In Canada June 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.1%  (+26,600) from May 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 1.5% (+296,900) over June 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.2% (+45,300) from May 2017 at 18.4 million and increased 1.9% (+350,800) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.4% (-18,600) from May 2017 to 1.3 million and decreased 4.1% (-53,700) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from May 2017 to 6.5%.


In Halifax June 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally adjusted):

  • Labour force decreased 0.2% (-400) from May 2017 to 242,000 and increased 0.2% (+500) over June 2016.
  • Employment decreased 0.1% (-200) from May 2017 to 225,400 and decreased 1.1% (2,600) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.2% (-200) from May 2017 to 16,700 and increased 23.7% (+3,200) over June 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from May 2017 to 6.9%.
