June 30, 2017CANADA GDP BY INDUSTRY, APRIL 2017 Real GDP in Canada increased 0.2 per cent in April 2017, after growth of 0.5 per cent in March. There have been six consecutive months of positive real GDP growth.
Output of goods-producing industries was unchanged in April. Mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction (+1.2%) grew as drilling and rigging services expanded while oil and gas extraction was down. Manufacturing was down 0.9 per cent offsetting an increase last month. Conduction was up for sixth consecutive month with rising engineering and commercial building construction and a decline in residential construction. GDP in service-producing industries increased 0.3 per cent in March with broad-based growth across the sectors.
Comparing year to date (January - April) 2017 to the same period in 2016, the Canadian economy is 2.8 per cent larger this year than last.
Goods production is up 3.2 percent with increases in all subsectors led by gains in mining, quarrying and gas extraction (+8.2%), manufacturing (+2.1%) and utilities (+2.1%).
GDP for service-producing industries is up 2.7 per cent on increases in all subsectors except management of companies and enterprises (-1.7%), administration and support (-0.2%), and a 0.1 per cent decline in the other services (except public administration) sector.
