June 14, 2017NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, JANUARY-APRIL 2017 In January-April 2017, Nova Scotia motor vehicle unit sales decreased 2.1% over Jan-Apr 2016. The 16,619 new vehicles sold in January-April represented a value of $607.4 million, up 6.7% compared with motor vehicle sales values from the same period in 2016.
In January-April 2017, Canadian unit sales increased 2.4 per cent over Jan-Apr 2016 to 629,215 units. January-April dollar sales were in positive territory, increasing 7.2 per cent over January-April 2016 to $25.0 billion.
In Nova Scotia January-April 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle sales value increased 11.3% (81.2% share) over Jan-Apr 2016. Motor vehicle sales value of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 13.3% (18.8% share) over Jan-Apr 2016.
In Nova Scotia January-April 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle unit sales increased 1.2% (82.8% share) over Jan-Apr 2016. Motor vehicle unit sales of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 15.4% (17.2% share) over Jan-Apr 2016.
Average Prices
In January-April 2017, the average unit price in Canada increased 4.7% to $39,761 over Jan-Apr 2016. In Nova Scotia the average unit price increased 9.0% to $36,549 over the same period last year.
Passenger Cars and Trucks
In January-April 2017, Nova Scotian passenger car unit sales decreased 15.0 per cent over Jan-Apr 2016 to 5,647 units. January-April passenger car dollar sales decreased 13.8 per cent over January-April 2016 to $144.7 million.
In January-April 2017, Nova Scotian truck unit sales increased 6.2 per cent over Jan-Apr 2016 to 10,972 units. January-April truck dollar sales increased 15.3 per cent over January-April 2017 to $462.7 million.
The truck share of the new motor vehicle sales value stands at 76.2%, and in the new motor vehicle unit sales volume stands at 66.0%
In Nova Scotia January-April 2017 the average unit price increased for trucks to $42,169 and increased for cars to $25,628 over Jan-Apr 2016.
