May 30, 2017CANADA'S BALANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS 2017Q1 1ST QUARTER
In Canada 1st Quarter 2017 the seasonally adjusted current account deficit increased $2.3 billion over the 4th quarter 2016 to $14.1 billion.
In the 1st quarter 2017:
- exports (receipts) of goods and services increased $2.3 billion to $166.0 billion, while imports (payments) of goods and services increased $4.6 billion to $173.5 billion. The resulting international goods and services trade deficit increased $2.2 billion to $7.5 billion.
- primary income receipts increased $29 million to $24.8 billion, while payments increased $193 million to $30.6 billion. The resulting international primary income deficit increased $164 million to $5.9 billion.
- secondary income receipts decreased $136 million to $3.0 billion, while payments decreased $259 million to $3.7 billion. The resulting international transfers deficit decreased $124 million to $706 million.
- with trade deficit increasing ($2.2 bil); primary income deficit increasing ($164 mil); and secondary income deficit declining ($124 mil), the current account deficit increased by $2.3 billion to $14.1 billion.
