NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, JANUARY-MARCH 2017

In January-March 2017, Nova Scotia motor vehicle unit sales decreased 1.5% over Jan-Mar 2016. The 10,765 new vehicles sold in January-March represented a value of $392.7 million, up 6.0% compared with motor vehicle sales values from the same period in 2016.

In January-March 2017, Canadian unit sales increased 4.4 per cent over Jan-Mar 2016 to 429,024 units. January-March dollar sales were in positive territory, increasing 8.4 per cent over January-March 2016 to $17.1 billion.

In Nova Scotia January-March 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle sales value increased 10.3% (81.5% share) over Jan-Mar 2016. Motor vehicle sales value of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 12.8% (18.5% share) over Jan-Mar 2016.




In Nova Scotia January-March 2017, North America manufactured motor vehicle unit sales increased 2.0% (83.4% share) over Jan-Mar 2016. Motor vehicle unit sales of vehicles manufactured in other countries decreased 16.0% (16.6% share) over Jan-Mar 2016.

Average Prices

In January-March 2017, the average unit price in Canada increased 3.8% to $39,847 over Jan-Mar 2016.  In Nova Scotia the average unit price increased 7.7% to $36,478 over the same period last year. 



 

 

Passenger Cars and Trucks

In January-March 2017,  Nova Scotian passenger car unit sales decreased 20.1 per cent over Jan-Mar 2016 to 3,341 units. January-March passenger car dollar sales decreased 19.7 per cent over January-March 2016 to $84.9 million.

In January-March 2017,  Nova Scotian truck unit sales increased 10.0 per cent over Jan-Mar 2016 to 7,424 units. January-March truck dollar sales increased 16.3 per cent over January-March 2017 to $307.8 million.

The truck share of the new motor vehicle sales value stands at 78.4%, and in the new motor vehicle unit sales volume stands at 69.0%

 



In Nova Scotia January-March 2017 the average unit price increased for trucks to $41,464 and increased for cars to $25,400 over Jan-Mar 2016.
