May 12, 2017US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2017 The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.2 per cent in April 2017 (seasonally adjusted) on a month to month basis. In April, the energy index rose 1.1 per cent with only fuel oil showing a monthly decline. Food and shelter rose 0.2 per cent and 0.3 per cent, respectively.
Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.2 per cent before seasonal adjustment, down from 2.4 per cent year over year, last month. Year over year growth appears to be slowing, but is still higher than has been seen in 2015 and 2016.
The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.1 per cent in April. For the 12-months ending in April, the index for all items less food and energy rose 1.9 per cent, the energy index increased 9.3 per cent, and the food index was up 0.5 per cent.
