May 02, 2017GOODS EXPORTS AND EXPORTING ESTABLISHMENTS, 2016 Statistics Canada has updated the number of international exporting establishments in Nova Scotia. In 2016, there were 953 exporting establishments, up from 941 reported in 2015. The value of exports from these establishments declined 1.8 per cent to $4.9 billion, resulting in a lower average value of exports per establishment at $5.15 million.
By Sector
Statistics Canada's release also includes additional details on the number of firms that export by industrial sector. The largest exporting sector for Nova Scotia exports in 2016 was Manufacturing (296 of the 953 firms). The next largest Nova Scotia sector by number of exporters was Wholesale trade at 258 exporters, followed by Argiculture/forestry/fishing at 93 exporters. Next are Retail Trade with 87 exporters and Mining/Oil/Gas extraction with 11 exporters.
In 2016, all industries representing 100% of export value, increased by 12 exporters but declined by $91 million.
- Agriculture/forestry/fishing representing 10% of exporters, exports per exporter increased to $2.6 million.
- Retail trade representing 9% of exporters, exports per exporter increased to $100 thousand million.
- Wholesale trade representing 27% in exporters, exports per exporter increased to $3.8 million.
- Mining/Oil/Gas extraction representing 1% of exporters, exports per exporter increased to $6.4 million.
- Manufacturing, representing 31% of exporters, exports per exporter decreased to $11.5 million.
