EU AND EURO AREA CPI INFLATION, JANUARY 2017

In January 2017, annual inflation was 1.8 per cent in the Euro Area and 1.7 per cent in the European Union.  In December 2016, annual inflation was 1.1 per cent in Euro Area and 1.2 per cent in the EU. 

The highest annual rates were recorded in Belgium, Latvia, Spain and Estonia.  The lowest annual rates were recorded in Ireland, Romania and Bulgaria.

The largest upward impacts to euro area annual inflation came from fuels for transport, heating oil and vegetables, while telecommunication, gas and bread & cereals had the biggest downward impacts.
