GOODS EXPORTS AND EXPORTING ESTABLISHMENTS, 2015

Statistics Canada has updated the number of exporting establishments in Nova Scotia.  In 2015, there were 941 exporting establishments, down from 980 reported in 2014.  However, the value of exports from these establishments rose 7.9 per cent to $5.0 billion, resulting in a higher average value of exports per establishment at just over $5.3 million.  This export value per establishment trails the other provinces.

Statistics Canada's release also includes new details on the number of firms that export to different destination markets.  The largest destination markets for Nova Scotia exports in 2015 were the United States (700 of the 941 firms).  The next largest destination countries by number of Nova Scotia exporters are: UK (100), China (98), France (84), Japan (72), South Korea (63), Germany (63), Netherlands (58) and Australia (55).  Note that these include 300 exporting establishments with with multiple destination countries.  By number of exporting establishments and value of exports, the US remains Nova Scotia's number one export destination.
