EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, DECEMBER and ANNUAL 2016

DECEMBER

In December 2016, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €28.1 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods reported an increase of 6 per cent to €178.6 billion over December 2015. Imports increased 4 per cent to €150.5 bn over December 2015. It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 5 per cent to €137.4 bn over December 2015.

In December 2016, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €20.9 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world, compared with €20.6 bn in December 2015.

The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods reported an increase of 5 per cent to €164.4 billion over December 2015. Imports increased 6 per cent to €143.5 bn over December 2015. It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 5 per cent to €247.7 bn over December 2015.

 

ANNUAL

In January-December 2016, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €273.9 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

In January-December 2016 the EA19 exports of goods reported an increase of 0 per cent (€6.1 billion) to €2,047.8 billion over Jan-Dec 2015. Imports declined 2 per cent to €1,774.0 bn over Jan-Dec 2015. It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 1 per cent to €1,709.3 bn over Jan-Dec 2015.

In January-December 2016, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €39.3 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world, compared with €59.9 bn in Jan-Dec 2015.

In January-December 2016, the EU28 exports of goods reported a decline of 2 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to €1,745.7 billion. Imports declined 1 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to €1,706.4 bn. It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 1 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to €3,108.8 bn.
