February 14, 2017NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, JANUARY-DECEMBER 2016 In January-December 2016, Nova Scotia motor vehicle unit sales decreased 1.1% over Jan-Dec 2015. The 54,451 new vehicles sold in January-December represented a value of $1.859 billion, up 4.1% compared with motor vehicle sales values from the same period in 2015.
In January-December 2016, Canadian unit sales increased 2.3 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to 1,983,745 units. January-December dollar sales were in positive territory, increasing 7.6 per cent over January-December 2015 to $76.1 billion.
In Nova Scotia January-December 2016, North America manufactured motor vehicle sales value increased 4.3% (78.7% share) over Jan-Dec 2015. Motor vehicle sales value of vehicles manufactured in other countries increased 3.5% (21.3% share) over Jan-Dec 2015.
In Nova Scotia January-December 2016, North America manufactured motor vehicle unit sales decreased 1.5% (77.3% share) over Jan-Dec 2015. Motor vehicle unit sales of vehicles manufactured in other countries increased 0.3% (22.7% share) over Jan-Dec 2015.
Average Prices
In January-December 2016, the average unit price in Canada increased 5.2% to $38,374 over Jan-Dec 2015. In Nova Scotia the average unit price increased 5.3% to $34,140 over the same period last year.
Passenger Cars and Trucks
In January-December 2016, Nova Scotian passenger car unit sales decreased 13.0 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to 20,257 units. January-December passenger car dollar sales decreased 11.1 per cent over January-December 2015 to $522.2 million.
In January-December 2016, Nova Scotian truck unit sales increased 7.6 per cent over Jan-Dec 2015 to 34,194 units. January-December truck dollar sales increased 11.5 per cent over January-December 2015 to $1.3 billion.
The truck share of the new motor vehicle sales value stands at 71.9%, and in the new motor vehicle unit sales volume stands at 62.8%
In Nova Scotia January-December 2016 the average unit price increased for trucks is $39,094 and for cars is $25,778.
