JAPAN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, DECEMBER & ANNUAL 2016

Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.1 per cent in December as both employment and the labour force grew by 0.5 per cent. Over the past 6 months, Japan's unemployment rate has fluctuated between 3.0 and 3.1 per cent, but has been on a declining trend since 2009.  Japan typically reports much lower unemployment rates than those observed in Canada or in Nova Scotia.

On an annual basis, Japan's unemployment rate decreased for the sixth consecutive year to an average of 3.1 per cent in 2016, down from 3.4 per cent in 2015.
