The Department of Finance and Treasury Board French-language Services Plan is prepared pursuant to chapter 26 of the Acts of 2004, the French-language Services Act and Regulations.

Message from Deputy Minister

I am pleased to present the 2017-2018 French-language Services Plan for the Department of Finance and Treasury Board. The Department’s French-language Services Plan is prepared pursuant to chapter 26 of the Acts of 2004, the French-language Services Act.

The Acadian and Francophone community is an integral part of the present and future of Nova Scotia. They play a very important role as part of the social fabric of Nova Scotia. This community is warmly welcomed by all concerned in the Department. The Department of Finance and Treasury Board is supportive of the new Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie and in partnership with the French Nova Scotia community in fulfilling the recommendations of the Minister of the Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, the French community committee and Fedération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse (Acadian Federation of Nova Scotia).

Two of the department’s goals are to ensure that Nova Scotians can access important departmental information in French and participate in departmental consultations in French. The department is pleased to work in partnership with the Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie and other government institutions to improve the services we offer.

The Department shall step up to the task welcoming new Nova Scotians from many other parts of the world and those returning to their home province in the French-language and/or English language as it relates to their financial needs.

This year, another goal of this plan is to increase the number of Finance and Treasury Board staff and management enrolled in French courses. One way is to inform them of the benefits of learning another language.

We welcome all those who communicate in French, whether immigrants, returning Nova Scotians or others who wish to receive information in the French-language from the Department of Finance and Treasury Board.

Byron Rafuse
Deputy Minister
